Aspirating smoke detectors in combination with gas detections in practical application
Aspirating smoke detectors have been established and successfully used in reliable early fire detection for years. Aspirating smoke detectors are used wherever reliable detection is required and the requirements are higher than normal. But what happens if, for example, a defect happens in a lithium battery storage unit? Here as well, aspirating smoke detectors can be used for detection, but with a few exceptions. In the case of a thermal runaway, a defect in a lithium cell, other gases are produced in addition to smoke aerosols, which can be reliably evaluated to detect a defective lithium cell. These different characteristics of smoke aerosols and gases are compared and evaluated with each other - and this on a practical test of a high-voltage battery for e-mobility.
