Just a few years ago, visitors to the FeuerTrutz trade fair frequently asked us the astonished question: "Fire doors made of wood, is that even possible?" The simple answer to that question is: "Yes, it is!" and now entire houses are built from wood. The question that arises with timber construction is, what about fire doors in timber walls?
Wood has very good properties when it comes to fire resistance. Wood exhibits a uniform and reproducible burn rate; in practice, a 46 mm thick wooden fire door will still have an intact residual thickness of more than 20 mm after 30 minutes of full-bore fire.
